Do you wish to ditch your boring 9 to 5 desk job and instead be out there on the streets of Dubai exploring homes & commercial properties one after the other? Dubai is the world’s most adored Real Estate destination for all the right reasons and the charts are only showing an upward trend. Tall buildings, trendy villa communities, posh skyscrapers, and mixed-use gated neighborhoods, are contributing to the increase in the standard of living for expats & local city dwellers. Record-breaking properties are luring foreign investors due to their attractive price ranges and future growth potential. If you have a passion for selling properties, be a part of Dubai’s booming Real Estate Sector by choosing to become a full-time broker. Here are some tips that will give you the confidence to get started;
Undertake the Certified Course
Anyone who is eligible to work in Dubai can become a Real Estate agent. However, just like any career needs a formal education degree, even an Estate Agent needs to be officially certified. The Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI) offers a certificate course to train potential brokers and give them the necessary knowledge required to be good in this field. It is only a short four-day course and it covers a range of topics such as; industry dynamics, history of the Dubai market, legal procedures, sales process, ethical norms, and other skills required to be a seasoned broker. The course is available online and those who wish to attend the in-person class can visit the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) training center which is located at the Dubai Land Development (DLD) office. The cost for the training program is AED 3,000 and therefore it is an affordable bet. You will need to attempt a RERA written exam thereafter, and only if you pass the test, will you be awarded a certificate.
Secure a License
Once you have successfully undertaken the DREI course and completed the RERA exam, applying for a Real Estate broker license is the next step. Furnish the test certificates along with documents that state that you have no criminal background whatsoever and after a few days the Economic Department will grant you your broker’s license. This license comes with an expiry and has to be renewed from time to time.
Work Towards Building a Network
You now have a valid license in hand and it’s time to reach out to clients. But how does a newbie in this field get in touch with potential home/property seekers? The answer is simple, be proactive and extend your network in-person and within the online community. You can get your own website made, create social media profiles to promote yourself, and even participate in a seminar or workshop to meet new people & share your business card. As an Estate Agent, not only is it important to stay in touch with clients, but also with other stakeholders such as; mortgage companies, property sellers, and construction companies who are coming up with new residential projects in the neighborhood. The secret to being a successful player is to have up-to-date market information and be extremely well connected with everyone & anyone who could get you some leads.
Find Your Niche
Being a ‘jack of all trades’ works for some jobs, but not exactly when you are in the Real Estate sector. When someone confides in you to find their ‘dream property’, they need to feel confident that your market expertise will help in sourcing the ‘best’ and most ‘viable’ option, against their life-changing important investment decision. As a Realtor, you can find a niche specific to a geographic location (example – Dubai South neighborhood), or you may want to sell very specific types of homes (example – condos, villas, and townhouses), or even, target specific buyers (example – luxury buyers). This hyper-focus will help you earn genuine customers and stand out in the market.
Build Personal Relationships
Remember you are not just an agent, but an advisor, friend, and guide to your clientele. Long-term partnerships are won by going above & beyond to impress the home seekers by fostering bonds. You can do this by; wishing them on birthdays, sending gifts on special occasions, inviting clients over for coffee, and keeping in touch regularly.
Choosing to be a Real Estate Agent is a bold choice and nothing like the conventional desk job. There are plenty of opportunities to meet people from different cultural backgrounds, and earn attractive profits, if you continue persistently in this field.
